Paula performs several main peripheral functions in the Amiga.

 - It provides the Amiga's native audio, which is 4 channel 8 bit sound in conjunction with Agnus DMA.
 - It functions as the floppy drive controller in conjunction with Agnus DMA.
 - it performs UART functions of the Amiga serial port.
 - it provides an interface for Mouse/Joystick functions.
